Young Canadian Tennis Player

I have been playing tennis since i was 8 and at that time i was already years behind many kids in the world. Cause of canada's harsh long winters tennis is not encouraged to many canadians. I go to tournaments and probably 70% of the players do not have english as a first language. Most of them are eastern europeans with parents have pushed them to play since they were 3. I have made friends with some of them and they all say they don't enjoy playing anymore but they want to please there parents. I feel bad for these kids because they don't have much of a choice if they dont want to almost be disowned by there parents. These kids are rich and can afford to play all the time. I can't do that my parents have supported me the best that they can. They cant afford to pay court fees every day for 5 hours like kids i have to compete against. They can practice all the time and many of them have their own personell tennis courts. I have to go to barrie anytime i want to play indoors in the winter. My coach is great but then again i am not his only student by far he has 20 or 30 kids he is coaching. Most of the kids i am playing have their own personell coaches that are paid by there parents to take them to all the tournament and strategize how to beat players like me. I want to be a professional one day but it will take alot of hard work and training and just hoping that i have the talent to make it. How am i suppose to compete with these kids? I will have to just train harder then they can even imagine. If i do that then maybe i can get on the professionall tour and make some major noise. It may mean moving to montreal to be at the national training centre. If that is what it takes i will do it. I am very close to a scholorship in the states so i can have my own coach and get my education paid for and that would be amazing! It is going to be an uphill battle but i am will to do it and fight every disadvantage i have to overcome there advantages. - Struggling Canadian Tennis Player

  1. Nice reflecting Nathan. Especially big of you to realize and apologize for getting carried away at basketball. For what it's worth, in all my years coaching in the past, the two challenges for all teams is COMMITTMENT and working AS A TEAM. So, don't beat yourself up over it, as TREX said.
Rememebr you have an audience, one that isn't always into sports that much. What can you do to get people interested in sports? A clip from a famous tennis match? Background of a famous player?
